LOVE AND FORGIVENESS

LOVE AND FORGIVENESSRacism and prejudices can cause a lot of hurt both emotional and physically. All forms of racism, prejudice, and discrimination are affronts to the work of Christ on the cross. Racism and racial pride go contrary to God’s word. No one can justify racism from the Bible and no one can say the Bible is racist once an objective examination of the Bible, in its context, is done. The Bible commands us to love our neighbors. We need to work on loving all of mankind as the Bible teaches us regardless of where they come from, how they look or what color they are. Those that have been affected and hurt by prejudices and racism need to seek God’s help and practice forgiveness of those who hurt them. (Luke 6:37Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:)

  • God loves us without conditions, He loves us with impartiality. We too need to love others with the same standard, we need to not judge, not look down at people, not feel superior to people, we need to treat them with the same high respect and standard as God does us. Jesus teaches us that whatsoever we do to the least of our fellow brothers on earth we do to Him. Think about that statement. I would not want to intentionally miss treat anyone; knowing that by doing so I am also mistreating Christ. When you are mistreating someone you are mistreating someone made in the image of Christ and who He died for. (Matthew 25:41-46 – Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.)
  • Racism has been plaguing mankind for centuries. Those that are victims of it need to forgive the perpetrators of it. (Ephesians 4:32– And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.) The racist person may not deserve your forgiveness but you need to give it just the same.

CONCLUSION: Let’s keep in mind what Galatians 3:28 says “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” We need to recognize the Bible does not teach racism. The Old Testament marriage commandments were not racist they were basically the same as the New Testament commandment of not being unequally yoked. It could be said one of the main purveyors of racist thought and promotion of a superior race and inferior races in the 1800’s and early 1900’s was Charles Darwin with his books, the very title of one is racist in and of itself. The Bible is the exact opposite of racism. The Bible teaches us that all mankind is made in the image of God. The Bible teaches us that all are of equal value to God, equally loved By God and equally died for by Jesus on the Cross.

THE BIBLE & RACE EXAMINED

THE OLD TESTAMENT AND RACE – The children of Israel would encounter different peoples and ethnicity’s with different customs and beliefs. The Israelite’s were to avoid making treaties or covenants with foreign people. They were forbidden to go into a marriage with non-Jewish people. (Deuteronomy 7:2-3 – And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them: Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.) – People will try to make a blanket statement about this and say “see the Bible is racist because it is against interracial marriages” – Well that is not exactly what this passage is saying, and that would be taking this verse out of it’s immediate context. The reason why God commanded them not to intermarry with the people of the land is found in the next verse Deuteronomy 7:4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.” – God commanded the Israelite’s not to enter into marriages with non-Jews to protect them from idolatry and to keep them from the influence of pagan beliefs. Basically it was a command to not marry an unbeliever. We have this same command today in the New Testament and in no way is this command racist.  (II Corinthians 6:14 – Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?) – There is a danger in picking one verse and trying to interpret it outside of its contextual basis. This is how false beliefs and cults get their beginning. When reading, studying and interpreting what the Bible says, always look at verses in their context and use other scripture to help interpret scripture. Dr. C.I. Scofield had this to say about Scriptures and context “Never use a doubtful or obscure passage to contradict a clear and positive one; and never use an (if) to contradict a (verily).”

THE NEW TESTAMENT AND RACE (Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.) – The Great Commission clearly teaches what the New Testament and Christ is trying to convey, and that is all peoples of the earth are equally valued by God, equally loved by God and equally died for by Jesus on the cross.

Pentecost in Acts 2 shows us the worldwide, multi-ethnically, multi-cultural scope of the gospel of Christ. It is equally for all tribes and nations of the world. Peter in Acts 10 with his vision to go to the Gentiles with the Gospel, shows that God was making no distinction between Jew and Gentile. Jesus wanted all to believe on Him and accept His payment of their sin with His shed blood so they could go to Heaven one day. (Colossians 1:14 – In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins). Phillip preached to the Samaritans and opened the Scriptures with a man from Ethiopia (Acts 8:27a And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia…). Paul in I Corinthians 12 describes a very diverse first century church. While Jesus wants all peoples from all cultures to be saved. One must recognize if there are things in ones culture that are unbiblical, and then to get those aspects of your culture out of your life. We need to go by what God says and use His word as our supreme authority in our life; other cultural concerns should be secondary to Biblical truths and teachings. To God and the Bible all races, all ethnicity’s, all cultures, all colors, and all lives matter equally.

ONE RACE

ONE RACE – We are all really just one race; that one race is the human race. Black lives, White lives, Native American lives, Asian lives, Arab lives, Jewish lives, ALL LIVES MATTER! All humans on earth are descendant from Adam and Eve. (Genesis 3:20 – And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.) All humans on earth are descendant from Noah and his family. (Genesis 7:13 – In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark; & Genesis 9:1 – And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.) All races, ethnicity’s and people groups first separated into distinct groups at the tower of Babel (Genesis 11:7-8 – Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.) – Skin color in God’s eyes does not change the way He thinks of you. He loves all of mankind. He loved us first and wants us to accept His son as our Savior and to live eternally with Him. (John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.)

We all have the same basic brown pigment in our skin that determines the color of our skin. The amount of this pigment is genetically determined. After the scattering at the Tower of Babel, different groups of people carrying with them different sets of genes for different characteristics and skin tones separated and became isolated from each other. This allowed for the different ethnicity’s around the world to develop.

Adam and Eve possessed a mixture of all the varying skin tones you see today. Most likely they looked like a mixture of all these skin colors because they possessed within their genetic code all the varying skin tones. Caucasians, Africans, Asians, Indians, Arabs, and Jews are not really different races exactly; instead, they are different ethnicity’s of the same human race. All human beings have the same basic physical characteristics. So it is not a person’s skin color that makes them who they are. Their skin color should in no way cause racist or prejudice treatment toward them. We are all children of Adam and Eve. We are all created in the image of God. We are all sinners in need of a Savior. We are all equally and sacrificially loved by the Savior who came and lived among us, was mistreated, beaten, whipped, mocked, falsely accused and judged. He was hung on a cross to die, all because we needed a substitute payment for our sin debt. He came and shed his blood and died for all sinners, the prejudiced and non prejudiced, the racist and non racist; Jesus loves all and died for all of mankind’s sins on the cross of Calvary. (John 3:17-18 – For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.)

Today we see many people wanting to divide themselves into separate groups just solely based on their skin color. They will judge others just based on their skin color. They will have preconceived ideas about others just based on their skin color. They will treat others differently just based on their skin color. They do all of this and actually believe they are justified in doing so. Whether it is a white person having this attitude, or a black person having this attitude or any other ethnicity having this attitude; it is an anti-God attitude, a sinful, shameful attitude to have. We need to respect all people equally regardless of their skin color, or other physical characteristics. Jesus came for all, not just one particular color of people. We are all God’s children. The Bible teaches to treat all men equally. We should judge others based on the kind of person they are not based on skin color. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of this when he said “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” The thought of equality of all men is enshrined in one of our founding documents,  “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” – Declaration of Independence.  And finally we will close this thought with what the Bible says about for who Jesus died for. “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” II Corinthians 5:15. We are all one race, the human race, we are all equal before God, all lives matter equally to God.

RACISM & ABORTION

Psalm 100:3a – “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;” & Ephesians 1:4a – “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,)”. God is the Author and Creator of life. God created us and the Bible says He knew us even before the “foundation of the world.” We need to respect life; we need to respect the life of the innocent unborn children especially.

One cannot over emphasize the seriousness of the subject of abortion today; and one, more than ever needs to be able to defend what the Bible says on this subject and defend the unborn’s right to life. Since Roe v. Wade over 55 million boys and girls have been barbarically slaughtered in America. That figure dwarfs the number of people killed by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin combined. The very moral foundations of our society have been crumbling for some time. One of the biggest evidences of this is the erosion of the concept of the sanctity of human life.

LET’S TAKE A BRIEF LOOK AT ONE OF THE MAIN FOUNDING PROPONENTS FOR LEGALIZED ABORTION IN AMERICA – The Founder of Planned Parenthood Margaret Sanger was a proponent of an effort to improve human hereditary traits through social intervention by reducing the reproduction of those who were considered unfit according to “People & Events: Eugenics and Birth Control” PBS. Retrieved August 6, 2015. Sanger also was for the compulsory segregation or sterilization for the “profoundly retarded“(Sanger’s words not mine) source “The Sanger-Hitler Equation, Margaret Sanger Papers Project Newsletter, #32, Winter 2002/3 New York University Department of History. Some more of her infamous quotes are below:

On immigrants and the poor:
…human weeds,’ ‘reckless breeders,’ ‘spawning… human beings who never should have been born.”  Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization

On the purpose of birth control:
The purpose in promoting birth control was “to create a race of thoroughbreds,” she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921 (p. 2)

On the extermination of blacks:
We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” she said, “if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” Woman’s Body, Woman’s Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon

As you can see the founder of Planned Parenthood had some serious issues regarding minorities, immigrants and the value of human life. She had very non-biblical and evil views on these issues. She unfortunately has a strong influence on the society we now live in today. We need to be studied in the Word of God and be ready to give a Biblical and logical answer when the question of abortion and the sanctity of human life come up. We need to be ready to defend our faith in this issue. (I Peter 3:15)

The main motivation of Margaret Sanger was racist in its very core. She had a deep disdain for minorities and immigrants. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America. 78% of their clinics are in minority communities. Blacks make up 12% of the population, but 35% of the abortions in America. Sanger espoused the thinking of eugenicists — similar to Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” — but related the concept to human society, saying the genetic makeup of the poor, and minorities, for example, was inferior. Pivot of Civilization, by Margaret Sanger, 1922, p. 80.

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said this about Margaret Sanger “I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision, I am really in awe of her, there are a lot of lessons we can learn from her life” Secretary Clinton was the 2009 Margaret Sanger award winner.

NOW LET’S LOOK AT WHO CREATED HUMAN LIFE(Genesis 2:7 – And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.) The Bible says He is our God even before we are born. (Psalm 22:10 – I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.) God is our maker. He formed us. He designed us. (Isaiah 44:2a – Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb,).

God is the Author and Creator of life. God controls the timing of our birth. He wanted us born when we were born, where we were born and to whom we were born. He has a reason and a purpose for everyone. At the moment of conception God already knows us. Before anyone else even knows us, God already knows us and loves us and gave His life that we might have life eternal with Him in Heaven. What is conceived in the womb is a “child” — a baby human being however very small. We should understand that destroying what has begun to form in the womb is taking the life of a child. We could not justify such action before God. Only man was created in God’s own image. Not animals, man did not evolve over millions of years. God created us in His image and God breathed the breath of life in us. All life comes from God, but human life is set apart from all other life, in that it was God Breathed. (Genesis 2:7 – And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.)Our bodies are not our own. Neither is someone’s body that is unborn. Not one has a right over their own bodies or the bodies of the unborn. We all belong to God. We are created in his image. We must honor and respect the sanctity of God given life.

This subject may have disturbed some people; it can be a difficult subject to study. God is willing and ready to forgive, and to cleanse anyone from all unrighteousness. Jesus died on the cross for the sin of abortion, for the sin of taking human life unjustly, and all sin. Three of the greatest men in the Bible are Moses, David and Paul. Did you know that Moses was guilty of the killing of an Egyptian? David was guilty of the killing of Uriah. Paul was guilty of the killing of Christians. Yet look at our Bible. The first five books of our Bible were written by Moses. Most of the Psalms were composed by David. Perhaps half of the New Testament was written by Paul. All three were guilty of murder, but they had been saved by the grace of God. There is good news. You too can be saved and you too can be forgiven just like these men; and those guilty of the sin of abortion can also be saved. God’s grace is greater than all our sin. All you need to do is to repent of what you have done, confess it as sin, and turn to Jesus for forgiveness. (I John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. & II Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.)

DARWIN AND RACISM

First off, let’s take a look at an icon of the world and it’s thinking when it comes to the value placed on human life. (Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?) – The human heart can be a very wicked place. It can conjure up all sorts of evil, wicked and Godless thoughts and beliefs. Some of these Godless wicked beliefs can take on a life of their own after the originator of them first espouses those wicked, sinful thoughts or theories. (Matthew 15:18-19 – But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:) – When one starts to take away the fact that man was created by God in His image; one then opens the door to the devaluing of human life across the board. One opens the door to devaluing of certain ethnicities or groups of people. One kicks the door wide open to racism and prejudices of all kinds; and the one that espoused this devaluing of human life holds the brunt of the responsibility of the results of his actions and the drastically negative and brutal results of his theories as they have spread around the world.

True, Darwin was not the inventor of racism; but his theories, his books, his premises and the ideas espoused in his books certainly were very racist indeed! With just a cursory examination of his writings, one can see them laced with racist ideas and racist undertones. Only God can know the true condition of anyone’s heart; but the Bible does tell us by a person’s works we shall know them. (Matthew 7:15-17 – Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.) It is hard to understand why certain people, of which there are a lot, seem proud to stand with Darwin; even placing Darwin bumper stickers on their vehicles. It makes one wonder if they have ever actually ready any of his writings. Or perhaps they are just thinking it is the in thing or cool thing to do. If the latter is the case it shows their vast intellectual inferiority or if they have actually read his writings and still support him and his statements it shows their inherent racism or disregard thereof.

Darwin did not invent racism but his theories and the school of thought they created promoted his racial ideas and undertones along with his theory of evolution. For example, in 1906 a pygmy from Central Africa was caged along with an orangutan in the Bronx Zoo as an exhibit. The Aborigines in Australia in the 1800’s were hunted down by the ‘enlightened’ evolutionists searching for the “missing link”. Hitler built on this same thought process in his efforts to advance the Aryan race as the “master race”.

Where did all of these people get their ideas about race? It certainly was not from the Bible. God commands us to love all people as He loved us. (John 13:34 – A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.) So where did these ideas come from? – They could be a result of the teachings and influence of Darwin and others like him.

The full title of Darwin’s most famous work I think displays how racist his theory of evolution was. “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life” In his next book, Darwin also theorized man evolved from apes to become different races one at a time with his own “white” race, being the one that was most advanced (i.e. racist thoughts and conclusions). He classified the other different races as “savage”, “low” and “degraded” – Darwin is not a man anyone should be promoting as some kind of hero or using his name with feet attached as a bumper sticker. (I Timothy 6:4-5 – He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.)Darwin is the kind of man that should be shunned and abhorred as one would Hitler. Even if you think some of his ideas are valid you certainly should not be proud of the man and promote his name at all!

I Samuel 16:7 – “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

Notice what the Lord is saying in this verse. God does not judge us based on our outward appearance, He does not look down on us for being too short or too tall; He does not judge us based on our skin color. God looks at the heart and judges us according to our heart condition. To God all lives matter, no matter your skin color. If your heart is full of racism or hate how do you think the Lord sees it? What is the condition of your heart today? Do you judge others, maybe not on their race, but do you judge them on other outward characteristics? Do you think all lives matter?

Racism is a deeply held belief that one’s ethnicity or racial heritage makes them superior over those of other ethnic backgrounds; this usually results in discrimination and can and has resulted in segregation and unjust treatment by those who consider themselves superior to those who they consider inferior. What everyone needs to understand is that all of mankind was equally created in the image and likeness of God. (Genesis 1:26-27 – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.)

God loved all of mankind, not just the Jews, not just the Caucasians, not just the Asians or Africans, but He loved all of mankind so much that He sent His only begotten Son down to earth to equally die for all of mankind no matter what color his skin may be. (John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.) The Lord also has given us a commandment to love all men and all ethnicities as ourselves. (James 2:8 – If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:). There are people in the world that may try to say the Bible contains racism and will try to give you a few examples. This is why we need to know what the Bible teaches about racism, verses what the world may try to say it teaches. We need to be ready to defend our faith on this front. Like I Peter 3:15 says we need to be ready to give that answer.
