Proverbs 1:8-9 “My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.”

This is a general exhortation to receive the instructions, and submit to the authority of your parents. And not only hearken to thy father when he teaches you; but these verses are telling us to let our mother’s commands be a law unto us. One of the great steps to wisdom is to give great reverence to your parents, both natural and spiritual; especially reverence to your mother. God gives us special direction to observe and do what our mothers tell us to do as if it is a law we must follow. God, in His Word, takes special care to promote a just reverence to mothers and what they have to tell us about life and living in general.

Verse nine is telling us, if we heed to the good things our mothers teach us and observe them as if it is the law, that it will metaphorically be “an ornament of grace” on display for the world to see. Those around you can tell if you are respectful and obedient to your mother or if you are not. It will show in your countenance, in your conduct or in some other way in your life negatively, if you are forsaking the instruction of your mother.

INTRODUCTION: The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.  Her campaign to make “Mother’s Day” a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Ann Jarvis had been a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers because she believed that they were “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world”.

In 1908, the US Congress rejected a proposal to make Mother’s Day an official holiday, but by 1911 all US states observed the holiday, the first being West Virginia, Jarvis’ home state, in 1910. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating Mother’s Day, held on the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers.

On May 8, 1914, the United States Senate and House of Representatives passed a joint resolution establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. The next day, May 9, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation, an excerpt of which is below:

Now, Therefore, I, Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the said Joint Resolution, do hereby direct the government officials to display the United States flag on all government buildings and do invite the people of the United States to display the flag at their homes or other suitable places on the second Sunday in May as a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.”

Billy Sunday speaking on the love mothers have for their children said this “A Mothers love is unselfish, and has no limits this side of heaven.


OUR MOTHERS DESERVE OUR OBEDIENCE (Ephesians 6:1 – Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. & Colossians 3:20 – Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.)

  • Children, obey your parents” – the duty of children to their parents is obedience.
  • In the Lord” – we are to obey our parents “in the Lord”, we are to obey them because God has told us to, because authority was established by God.
  • For this is right” – we are to obey our mothers and fathers simply because it is the right thing for us to do.
  • Even Jesus obeyed His mother growing up. (Luke 2:51 – And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.)
  • Are we giving our mothers the obedience they deserve? The obedience we are commanded to give them by the Lord? The obedience we are told in God’s Word that is just the right thing to do?

OUR MOTHERS DESERVE OUR RESPECT (Ephesians 6:2-3 – Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. & Exodus 20:12 – Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.)

  • Solomon warned of dire consequences to those who disrespected their parents in Proverbs 20:20 “Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.”
  • In the Old Testament times, children that disrespected their parents were put to death under the law. (Leviticus 20:9 – For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.)
  • In Proverbs 20:20 it says their “lamp shall be put out” in other words they will have no prosperity, they will live an unblessed, by God, life.

An old Chinese proverb says “Respect for one’s parents is the highest duty of civil life.

  • The Bible, God, and common decency, demands that we respect our parents, especially our mothers. Are you respecting your mother like you should? Do you need to apologize to her for any disrespect you have showed her?

OUR MOTHERS DESERVE OUR AFFECTION (I Kings 19:20 – And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?) – Elisha here in this verse demonstrates the kind of affection that is due our parents.

  • Why not be affectionate to our mothers? They have given so much for us, they have sacrificed so much for us, and can we at least in return demonstrate our thankfulness to them by showing outward affection to them?
  • Such affection can be an “I love you Mom!”, or hugs, or gifts.
  • Do we give our mothers the affection they deserve? Have you given your mom the affection she deserves recently and consistently?
  • Elisha here was a grown man going to be a mighty prophet for God; and we see he is begging for the opportunity to run back and hug and kiss his father and his mother. Do we have this kind of love and respect that Elisha demonstrated for our parents? Do we cherish our father and mother like Elisha did? If we do not, we need to get that right with God, and with them.

OUR MOTHERS DESERVE TO HAVE CHILDREN WHO ARE INCREASING IN WISDOM (Proverbs 10:1 – A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. & Proverbs 17:25 – A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.) – We have an obligation to our parents to strive to increase in wisdom throughout our lives and in our decisions we make.

  • Jesus increased in wisdom as He grew from childhood to adulthood, we are to be conforming to His image as we go through our life, this is a key area we need to conform to, and our mothers need us to conform to Christ in this area of wisdom too. (Luke 2:52 – And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.)
  • Mothers worry enough about their children; we should not be giving them any unnecessary grief by our foolish actions or direction.
  • Much of our wisdom, if we will really listen, accept, and apply it, can come from our mothers and what they tell us, teach us, and show us.
  • Are you growing in wisdom in your life? Or are you heading down the path of foolishness? For your mothers sake you should strive to be as wise as you can be in the Lord.

OUR MOTHERS DESERVE RIGHTEOUSNESS DEMONSTRATED IN OUR LIFE (Proverbs 23:24-25 – The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.) – More important than any other achievement we could do in our life for our mothers is the achievement of a righteous character in our life.

“There is no greater joy a parent can have than to see his son take virtuous courses.–Let not thy father and mother then want this singular pleasure; but by thy well-doing fill the heart of her that bare thee with joy and triumph, who, for all the pains and care that she hath had in thy birth, and about thy education, desires no other requital but only this.” – Bishop Simon Patrick (1626 – 1727)

  • Nothing makes a mother happier or prouder than to have a good (righteous) son or daughter.
  • We can get true righteousness in our life by our faithful following of Jesus. (Romans 3:21-22 – But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:)
  • Everyone has a need for the gospel in their life. Your salvation, by faith in Jesus Christ, through whom God manifests His combined righteousness and mercy, will be a great source of joy for a Christian mother. Knowing their children are on their way to heaven is the best knowledge a mother can have. We need to make sure of our salvation and of our mothers salvation too.
  • Any righteousness we have in our life is of God; and how we live in accordance with His Word. We are, according to His Word, justified by our faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The benefits of whose obedience and death are obtained not by human works or merit, but by receiving Him as our Savior, and trusting in Him for our salvation. (Romans 5:8-11 – But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.)
  • Jesus Christ is to whom God commands us to commit our souls, with all humble and obedient regard. This way of obtaining righteousness and life is now made available to all, and is put upon all them that believe, for there is no respect of persons with God. “Whosoever will”, have the chance to get save, will have the ability to have His righteousness imputed onto them. And no greater joy will our mother have then to see us walking after God and serving Him with our life. (Romans 4:22-25 – And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.)

OUR MOTHERS DESERVE OUR CARE AND CONCERN FOR THEM (I Timothy 5:4,8 & 16 – But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.) – Our parents, especially widows, deserve our care and concern.

  • It was God’s original intent that children were to be their parents “social security”. Our parents, as they get older, deserve the best care we can afford to give them.
  • Some as they age may require professional medical care, but we should not simply drop them off at the nursing home for just convenience, our parents are ultimately our personal responsibility and we should honor and care for them as in a way to thank them for all they did for us.
  • Ways you can care for your mother while you and her are still young, is by doing the dishes, helping with the laundry, taking out the trash, helping with the cleaning of the house and you should show your respect to your mother, that she deserves from you, and do all of these chores without prompting and seek to do them all to the best of your ability.
  • Are you caring for your mother like you should? Will you make the decision to start caring for your mother like you should today if you are not? Will you make the commitment to God now to care for your mother as she ages?

IN CONCLUSION: God gives us special direction to observe and do what our mothers tell us to do as if it is a law we must follow. God in His Word takes special care to promote a just reverence to mothers and what they have to tell us about life and living in general. We are to obey our parents “in the Lord”; we are to obey them because God has told us to, because authority was established by the Lord. Why not be affectionate to our mothers? They have given so much for us, they have sacrificed so much for us, and can we at least in return demonstrate our thankfulness to them by showing outward affection to them? Everyone has a need for the gospel in their life. Your salvation, by faith in Jesus Christ, will be a great source of joy for a Christian mother. Knowing their children are on their way to heaven is the best knowledge a mother can have. We need to make sure of our salvation and of our mothers salvation too. (III John 1:4 – I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.)

We may choose to give our mothers flowers, cards or gifts on Mother’s Day; but we need to keep in mind that all the other days throughout the year she deserves something from us to, our mothers, year round, deserve our:

  • Obedience
  • Respect
  • Affection
  • Wisdom
  • Righteousness
  • Care

Are we practicing all these things that our mothers deserve from us all the days throughout the year or do we just act a little extra nice to her on Mother’s Day?

Psalm 100:3a – “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;” & Ephesians 1:4a – “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,)”. God is the Author and Creator of life. God created us and the Bible says He knew us even before the “foundation of the world.” We need to respect life; we need to respect the life of the innocent unborn children especially.

One cannot over emphasize the seriousness of the subject of abortion today; and one, more than ever needs to be able to defend what the Bible says on this subject and defend the unborn’s right to life. Since Roe v. Wade over 55 million boys and girls have been barbarically slaughtered in America. That figure dwarfs the number of people killed by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin combined. The very moral foundations of our society have been crumbling for some time. One of the biggest evidences of this is the erosion of the concept of the sanctity of human life.

LET’S TAKE A BRIEF LOOK AT ONE OF THE MAIN FOUNDING PROPONENTS FOR LEGALIZED ABORTION IN AMERICA – The Founder of Planned Parenthood Margaret Sanger was a proponent of an effort to improve human hereditary traits through social intervention by reducing the reproduction of those who were considered unfit according to “People & Events: Eugenics and Birth Control” PBS. Retrieved August 6, 2015. Sanger also was for the compulsory segregation or sterilization for the “profoundly retarded“(Sanger’s words not mine) source “The Sanger-Hitler Equation, Margaret Sanger Papers Project Newsletter, #32, Winter 2002/3 New York University Department of History. Some more of her infamous quotes are below:

On immigrants and the poor:
…human weeds,’ ‘reckless breeders,’ ‘spawning… human beings who never should have been born.”  Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization

On the purpose of birth control:
The purpose in promoting birth control was “to create a race of thoroughbreds,” she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921 (p. 2)

On the extermination of blacks:
We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” she said, “if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.” Woman’s Body, Woman’s Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America, by Linda Gordon

As you can see the founder of Planned Parenthood had some serious issues regarding minorities, immigrants and the value of human life. She had very non-biblical and evil views on these issues. She unfortunately has a strong influence on the society we now live in today. We need to be studied in the Word of God and be ready to give a Biblical and logical answer when the question of abortion and the sanctity of human life come up. We need to be ready to defend our faith in this issue. (I Peter 3:15)

The main motivation of Margaret Sanger was racist in its very core. She had a deep disdain for minorities and immigrants. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America. 78% of their clinics are in minority communities. Blacks make up 12% of the population, but 35% of the abortions in America. Sanger espoused the thinking of eugenicists — similar to Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” — but related the concept to human society, saying the genetic makeup of the poor, and minorities, for example, was inferior. Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said this about Margaret Sanger “I admire Margaret Sanger enormously, her courage, her tenacity, her vision, I am really in awe of her, there are a lot of lessons we can learn from her life” Secretary Clinton was the 2009 Margaret Sanger award winner.

NOW LET’S LOOK AT WHO CREATED HUMAN LIFE(Genesis 2:7 – And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.) The Bible says He is our God even before we are born. (Psalm 22:10 – I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.) God is our maker. He formed us. He designed us. (Isaiah 44:2a – Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb,).

God is the Author and Creator of life. God controls the timing of our birth. He wanted us born when we were born, where we were born and to whom we were born. He has a reason and a purpose for everyone. At the moment of conception God already knows us. Before anyone else even knows us, God already knows us and loves us and gave His life that we might have life eternal with Him in Heaven. What is conceived in the womb is a “child” — a baby human being however very small. We should understand that destroying what has begun to form in the womb is taking the life of a child. We could not justify such action before God. Only man was created in God’s own image. Not animals, man did not evolve over millions of years. God created us in His image and God breathed the breath of life in us. All life comes from God, but human life is set apart from all other life, in that it was God Breathed. (Genesis 2:7 – And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.)Our bodies are not our own. Neither is someone’s body that is unborn. Not one has a right over their own bodies or the bodies of the unborn. We all belong to God. We are created in his image. We must honor and respect the sanctity of God given life.

This subject may have disturbed some people; it can be a difficult subject to study. God is willing and ready to forgive, and to cleanse anyone from all unrighteousness. Jesus died on the cross for the sin of abortion, for the sin of taking human life unjustly, and all sin. Three of the greatest men in the Bible are Moses, David and Paul. Did you know that Moses was guilty of the killing of an Egyptian? David was guilty of the killing of Uriah. Paul was guilty of the killing of Christians. Yet look at our Bible. The first five books of our Bible were written by Moses. Most of the Psalms were composed by David. Perhaps half of the New Testament was written by Paul. All three were guilty of murder, but they had been saved by the grace of God. There is good news. You too can be saved and you too can be forgiven just like these men; and those guilty of the sin of abortion can also be saved. God’s grace is greater than all our sin. All you need to do is to repent of what you have done, confess it as sin, and turn to Jesus for forgiveness. (I John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. & II Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.)

RACISM, THE WORLD & THE BIBLE: Part 2 – Darwin & Racism

Sometimes things seem impossible; impossible to do, impossible to overcome, impossible to endure or impossible to handle. But the Bible tells us all things, even the things that seem impossible to us and impossible to us, even for God to do, are possible (Luke 18:27 – And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.) Life is often exhausting to us physically, mentally and spiritually – events in life can be too much for you to bear, too much for you to mentally accept, too much for you to comprehend, too hurtful, too sorrowful – but Jesus offers rest for our weary and burden souls (Matthew 11:28-30Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.)

Often you can be afraid of things in your life, you can be afraid of the reality you find yourself in, afraid of the circumstances you are facing, afraid of the events that are transpiring in your life – but God will strengthen and help us as we face these situations. You do not need to have the strength or ability to go through these times in your life. God will give you the strength and grace that you need moment by moment (Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.) When you are worried or anxious, God cares for us, cast your cares on Him (I Peter 5:7 – Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.) Sometimes we may feel all alone, that we are going through something those around us do not understand, we may feel lonely and neglected, we may even feel distant from God; but the Lord promises to never leave us or forsake us. We may not seek Him out sometimes, and try to do something on our own; but He is with us through it in spite of us not seeking Him at those moments (Hebrews 13:5 – … for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.)

Romans 1:26,28“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;” God’s word is clear on the subject of homosexuality. This is a sin. This is a perversion. This is not an alternate lifestyle. This does not equate with a heterosexual relationship. Homosexuality should not be granted the same status as a heterosexual relationship. Both homosexual and lesbian relationships are condemned in the Bible. God only approves of monogamous heterosexual relationships inside the bonds of marriage. All other sexual relationships both heterosexual and homosexual are a sin and condemned as such.

One Nation under God? – In our pledge we recall the heritage of our nation and declare we are “one nation under God”, but are we “under God” or have we left Him? (Psalm 33:12 – Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.) Let’s examine some of the sins that are now condoned or even encouraged by the leaders of our nation and the policies and laws they have put in place. (Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.)
Abortion – the taking of the life of an unborn child. Life begins at conception. Could a nation that condones this be considered “under God”? (Jeremiah 1:5 – Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee,…)
Fornication and Adultery – the whole nation seems to have lost its moral compass when it comes to this issue. The Bible is very clear on the issue of sex outside of the marriage bed. (Hebrews 13:4 – Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.)
Homosexuality – this is still a sin. No matter who may have “evolved” their opinion on this, a sin is a sin is a sin. And this particular sin is a perversion and thoroughly condemned as such in the Holy Scriptures. (Romans 1:26-28, 32 – For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.)

What our nation needs is revival if we hope to truly be a nation “under God” again. Christians are the key to this revival happening. We have to do our part to help bring revival about. We need to live separated, dedicated lives for Christ. Seeking to do his business on earth and follow his commandments for our life. (II Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.)

Both lesbianism and homosexuality are condemned in Romans chapter 1. (Romans 1:26-27 – For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.) God only approves of monogamous, heterosexual relationships in marriage. God condemns adultery both before and during marriage. Homosexuality and lesbianism is called “vile affections” in verse 26. Verse 26 says that they are against nature. Verse 27 tells us the precursor of this sin is lust “burned in their lust one toward another”.

The Bible says Homosexuality is a sin. It is a learned, chosen and unnatural sinful behavior which the Bible and our laws refer to as “sodomy”. Deuteronomy 23:17 – “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.”, Leviticus 18:22 – “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” & in our text Romans 1:32 tell us “that they which commit such things are worthy of death.
• Until December 1973 the American Psychiatric Association’s diagnostic manual listed homosexuality as a mental disorder. In December of 1973 under pressure from gay rights groups the board of the APA voted to remove it from the manual.
• In reference to this decision acclaimed New York psychiatrist Charles Socarides said in a Time Magazine report “It is flying in the face of the one fact that we know which is that male and female are programmed to mate with the opposite sex, and this is the story of …. any society that hopes to survive.” Socarides also claimed that the vote for the removal of homosexuality from the APA’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, won by a 65% majority rule, was heavily influenced by a letter sent by the National Gay Task Force to the 18,000 APA members asking them to support its removal. Only just over half of the APA members voted in this referendum. The National Gay Task Force spent over $3000 on printing and mailing the brochure to the APA members. A detail that was not revealed prior to the vote on the issue by the APA members.
• Medically speaking homosexuality is an unhealthy and harmful lifestyle. Examples – AIDS – homosexuals are primarily responsible for the spread of this disease in America. When AIDS was first detected it was called GRID (Gay Related Immune Deficiency). A large portion of gay males have had Hepatitis B, many have various infections and almost half of all the reported cases of syphilis in the United States occur in gay men.
• The Lord will give victory over this sin if we repent, seek His forgiveness, seek His wisdom and walk in His ways.(I Corinthians 6:9,11 – Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.)
• Paul was talking to Christians in the church at Corinth when he said some of them used to be homosexuals and lesbians. God will forgive this sin and help you to get victory over it. (Ephesians 3:20 – Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,)

The Bible say that “Fools make a mock at sin” Proverbs 14:9.
 They will say “what’s the big deal” or “it’s not that bad” or “you are just overreacting” They try to trivialize sin to make it less than it is. Does this sound familiar? This is rampant in our country. A good example of this going on in our country right now is the homosexual community. Until the 1970’s homosexuality was classified as a mental illness and was illegal in almost every state. Now they are succeeding in making a mockery of their sin. So much so now they have the President of the United States in support of homosexual marriage! A fool has no desire to learn, but desires only to air his personal opinions. (Proverbs 18:2 – A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.) The homosexual community and those in support of this are good at telling everyone to be tolerant but they are some of the most intolerant people when it comes to a Christian point of view on the subject of their sin.

Proverbs 26:11 tells us a fool will continue to go back to his old base ways. He will continue to go back to his filthy sinful ways. You might be able to pull him away temporarily but he always wants to go back to that sin. Foolishness left unchecked or not gotten out of will pervert one’s life. Foolishness will take a promising life of happiness and serving the Lord and ruin it and throw it all away. (Proverbs 19:3 – The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.) Don’t let this sin get a foothold in your life or mind. Don’t let yourself be conned into thinking it is a good thing to be supportive of homosexuals you may know. Think of it this way, would you be supportive and encourage a drunk to drink more wine and continue in their drunken self destructive behavior or encourage a murderer to continue killing?

The wicked City of Sodom. (Genesis 19:5-7 – And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.) Two angles came to announce judgment on the city of Sodom. Sodom and Gomorrah were going to be destroyed by God because of the awful sins of the people of those two cities. (Genesis 18:20 – And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous) They were all wicked. Wickedness and perversion had become universal in Sodom. They were wicked sinners exceedingly before the Lord. (Genesis 13:13 – But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.) Their wickedness was an unnatural abomination before the Lord. The sin still bears their name and is called Sodomy. Sodomy is an awful sin. (Romans 1:31-32 – Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.) Let’s draw a sharp line here, if something is sin it is sin. There should be no gray area where sin is concerned. All type of sexual contact before marriage is sin. Whether it is heterosexual or homosexual. (I Corinthians 7:1 – Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.) Just because you are against a sin does not mean you are against the sinner. Jesus received sinners, but when they met Jesus their attitude towards their sin changed. They saw it as God saw it. They changed the direction of their lives and repented of their sins. (Luke 5:31-32 – And Jesus answering said unto them,They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.)

The destruction of Sodom. (Genesis 19:23–25 – The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.)
• God waited for the sun to rise over Sodom and Gomorrah to show that this was no ordinary storm. God rained downed on them fire and brimstone. God demonstrated to the world that sin does not go unpunished. (Jude 1:7 – Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.)
• God overthrew the cities, it was utter destruction. Nothing was left. The end of sin is not satisfaction or happiness but death and destruction. (James 1:5 – Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.) Homosexuality is a sin. This is a perversion of nature and a wicked sin. It is not right to be supportive of this perverted sin. Just like it would not be right to support a drunk in their drunkenness it is not right to support someone in this sinful perversion. The Bible speaks strongly against this sin (Romans 1:21-32, Leviticus 18:22, Deuteronomy 23:17).

The Bible is also very clear that marriage is to be between one man and one woman for one lifetime. God created Eve for Adam (Genesis 2:24 – Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh). God ordained marriage to be between a man and a woman. Men are not to marry men and women are not to marry women. This is not condoned or allowed in the Holy Scriptures.
It is not intolerant to believe God’s word. God is the very epitome of love and inclusion. Christ came and died for all mankind. He died for the very vilest of sinners and He died for you and me. God so loved us all, that He sent His only son to die in our place; So that we could have eternal life and live with Him in Heaven one day. God is love (I John 4:7-10). God loves the sinner but He does not love their sin. As Christians we too should love the sinner but not the sin. You can condemn a sin and that does not mean you are mistreating the sinner.
